Life goes on without you.
Writing Updates:
This week, there’s not much to report in terms of progress. No new poems, no new submissions...yet. I did receive a rejection a few days ago, which always stings, but I will keep submitting. It is only a matter of time before my work finds an audience. I will send out more poems soon.
Sometimes powerful work happens internally. I've been watching events happen around me, and the moments linger, and will perhaps in time be ideas, then a theme, then a poem. Sometimes that is how the process happens for me.
Reflection:
I’ve been thinking about how life just… goes on. Whether I’m writing or not, it doesn’t pause. Moments keep lining up, chaotic, and unpredictable. Emotions rise and fall, weather shifts, people bring their own brand of horror. Even when I feel stuck, the world keeps circling. I try to find some meaning in every day.
It is comforting that some days, even when I am not putting pen to paper, I am still constructing stories, still stringing words together, if only in my mind.
So if you're in a moment of quiet, or rejection, know that doesn't mean that you aren't creating. The world is still telling you stories , and some time later you can tell the rest of us.
Spotlight Poem: In the Mud
This week's spotlight is one of my personal favorites. It's about surrender. About letting go of expectations, ego, even shame—and learning to simply be. To sit in discomfort and still find wonder. That’s a lesson I keep returning to, to learn again and again.
You can read the full poem here: In the Mud
Excerpt:
Sitting naked in the mud
Rain falling all around
Stream-lets carrying the dirt from my body
Shivering from the cold biting wind...

Final Notes:
I may not have written anything new this week, but I’ve felt things deeply. I’ve noticed the way the wind changes. I’ve remembered lines I forgot I wrote. I’ve sat still and let the world pass through me. Sometimes, that’s enough.
Thanks for being here. If you’ve been sitting in the mud lately, too—I see you.
Until next time,
Donnie
